Gardens come in all different sizes and shapes, so gardening gear will, also. Assuming you have a small, indoor garden, with your plants put into containers, you won't need very many tools. If you have a garden that fills one half of your back yard, then you probably will have plenty of gardening equipment. You may possibly have to put up with less than optimal tools, if you can't afford everything you need to begin with.

Not everyone, who's got a garden have enough money for tools that are high-tech and expensive, but they all have cultivating tools of some kind. Based on how determined you are, it may be anything from power tools to all-hand tools. Many of the everyday tools that will be included among the hand tools are diggers, rakes, trowels and shovels. Most of these tools are simple enough to use for prepping your garden. A few other tools and equipment that can be used are a mattock, a pickax, and a wheel cultivator. You can really cut down on the hard labor by utilizing power tools, but they do cost more than hand tools.

Probably the most crucial tool that you will probably need for your garden is the tiller. This can help prep the garden by breaking up the ground, mixing fertilizer or compost and cutting up debris. If you do not want to buy a tiller, you can probably rent one or borrow it from someone. Electrical power tools that are popular for gardening include chain-saws, chippers or even garden shredders. Pruning tools are essential to have if you intend to have shrubs, hedges or small trees in your garden. If the branches are less than half an inch thick, you can use pruning shears but if the branches are half an inch to two inches thick, you will need lopping shears. For branches about fifteen feet above ground, they can be reached using a pole pruner. But if you're planning to be a serious gardener, then you want something more heavy-duty like a pruning saw or hedge shears.

A garden needs water, since it doesn't normally rain on schedule, you will need to have some kind of watering equipment. It can be pretty challenging to get along with no hose, but most other things for watering are not absolutely necessary. There are sprinklers and drip hoses, that will be able to use timers, as long as you don't mind spending the money. Without the need of gardening accessories, there might be a lot less people doing it, because it would be a nightmare. You'll find people who like to get their hands dirty when they garden but even then they still have a tool like a hoe or rake. As essential as getting the right soil and seeds for your garden, you need to have the right equipment for your garden.

When you are preparing your garden, and all you need, remember to put tools in your budget. You don't need to have the best tools, or perhaps new ones, but you actually do need the basic tools or your garden will never get done.
