One area you could look at is your wedding attire. You could buy a beautiful, elegant but relatively inexpensive dress for your wedding. You could buy costume jewellery to go with it if you also do not have many gold jewels to go with it.
Then we come to the location. You could invite just family and friends and have the wedding at your house or some friend`s bigger house. You could also rent a hall but book much in advance in order to avoid the higher cost during the peak season. Marriage in a temple or a community centre is a good idea again when it comes to low budget Indian weddings. This would cut down on the cost tremendously. You need only invite the close family and some close friends.
Taking a look at the music or the entertainment cost; you need not call a disc jockey or a comedian but be your own Deejay and have a hired system of a friend and play the best music for the party.
You could scout around for a reasonably priced caterer who will give you wholesome food at a reasonable charge and could go in for a few dishes, maybe only vegetarian ones to cut down further on your costs. You could use less oil and butter and still prepare very nice dishes. If you can`t even afford a caterer prepare the food your self or have the Potluck in which you invite all your guests to bring a dish each from home for the wedding feast. Friends and relatives would certainly like to help with this.
Then we come to the décor. If you are having the marriage in a hall you need not spend on anything more than some flowers and the tables and chairs. You need not order tents for the marriage. You can light candles and decorate with flowers to give it an auspicious feel. You can ask friends to bring in plants and have beautiful planters set the stage for your marriage.
You could have just a few snacks and drinks or even have a morning wedding. This will cut down on the cost of lights and drinks considerably. You need not bring lots of dowry or jewellery with you for the family of the groom to admire if you and your short of cash. Just a few household articles for your new home are enough. Then you can tell the family of the groom to bring just close family for the wedding so that you don`t have a huge horde of guests to feed. You could have friends serving the drinks and snacks instead of hired waiters. This also gives a homely and intimate feel to the whole occasion.
The Bidaai can also be a reasonable affair. The groom could hire a car for this, this would be good but you need not decorate the car so extensively. You can ask friends to gift you with the necessary articles for your new home rather than decoration pieces as gifts.
